Wild Coast Warriors
On Friday the 27th of November we will invite students and staff from OVGU to watch the South African film Wild Coast Warriors through Zoom. The film follows the struggle of people along a stretch of South Africa’s east coast known as the “Wild Coast.” There, local communities fight against plans by the oil company Shell to exploit the seabed just off their coast. They take the company to court—and win. It is a compelling David-versus-Goliath story that places marine life, as well as the beliefs and culture of the local people, at the center.
Following the film screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring some invited guests who will discuss the film through the lens of the overarching theme: Compassion, Gift, and Sustainability.
